The Cleveland Browns got another win this past weekend, but that’s not what’s important in the preseason. Instead, it’s about earning a spot on the team and these players helped themselves in that regard

A 21-18 win on Saturday night moved the Cleveland Browns to 2-0 on the preseason. While seeing them score a win is nice, that’s clearly not the goal of the preseason — and we all know this as their 4-0 record in the 2017 preseason was followed by a 0-16 regular season and still serves as a stark reminder of what the wins and losses mean in these games.

Instead, these exhibition games are all about trying to iron out any wrinkles in their game plans while also identifying the best players to build a 53-man roster with. For the Browns, they have seen a lot of players making their case so far.

Here, we look at three such players who went out and made progress in their endeavor for either a job on the team or even a spot on the 53-man roster.

Toughest Omission: Jamie Gillan

The rookie punter made his presence felt in this game as he came out and boomed a 74-yard punt that made its rounds on social media. It’s not often a punter gets that kind of attention, but The Scottish Hammer has been a fun one to watch.

He’s also done a good job holding on field goal and extra points, which is a part of the punter’s job in Cleveland. However, he has some serious competition as Britton Colquitt just continues to be one of the more solid punters in the game. Gillan has been more exciting, but he’s still got a long way to go in order to win a job.
