Quarterback (3): Baker Mayfield, Drew Stanton, Garret Gilbert

There’s not a lot of shock value here as the Cleveland Browns enter the 2019 season finally without any question regarding who starts under center. Second-year gunslinger Baker Mayfield was chosen first overall out of Oklahoma last year and is the new face of the franchise.

He looks to take the next step as the leader of the team after setting the Cleveland record for passing yards by a rookie (3,725) and the NFL record for touchdown passes by a rookie (27). Now with added weapons such as Odell Beckham, Jr. on the roster, Mayfield should have no problem putting up even better numbers this year.

Behind him is the veteran Drew Stanton. A well-respected backup, Stanton has been praised by Mayfield for the way he has taken him under his wing. While all that’s true, Stanton has struggled with accuracy during his career, completing just 52.4 percent of his throws.

That is one of the reasons they go three-deep at the position. Another reason is the play of Garrett Gilbert. Following a strong performance in the short-lived AAF, Gilbert received another shot at making it in the NFL. He’s done well with that opportunity and has done enough to convince head coach Freddie Kitchens to keep a third signal-caller.

The loser in this is their undrafted rookie David Blough. He’s also played well but likely won’t even be on the practice squad due to there being three quarterbacks. Still, he may have done enough to convince a team to give him a shot on their squad.
