Cleveland Browns News: Tough decisions loom for 53-man roster
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags look at the upcoming decisions looming for the Cleveland Browns as they need to cut their roster down to 53 for the 2019 regular season
One of the best things John Dorsey has done since joining the Cleveland Browns as general manager in December of 2017 is to create competition. Not only has he made it harder to become a starter on the team, but he’s also built some depth as it’s suddenly very hard to predict the 53-man roster.
With the team wrapping up their final preseason game with the Lions on Thursday, we now wait to see exactly what moves he and head coach Freddie Kitchens will do. We also know the decisions will be anything but easy.
For once, the Browns will have many players hit the waiver wire before Saturday’s deadline that other teams will be highly interested in.

Cleveland Browns News
"“Dontrell Hilliard was healthy and made the front office feel good with a strong first half, rushing for 65 yards in 12 carries. The undrafted free agent last year from Tulane is set up to be Nick Chubb’s backup. That happened after Duke Johnson was traded early in training camp Houston.”"
In addition to looking at Dontrell Hilliard’s solid game, Pluto compared the signing of Braxton Miller to 2018’s move to land Breshad Perriman. That could prove to be a good comparison.
Great Lakes Classic instant reactions
The Browns finished off the preseason with a nice win over the Lions. Martin McConnell looks back at the game and gives his instant reactions.
"“Devaroe Lawrence probably had a roster spot locked up before Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Lions. If he didn’t, he made his closing statement with a sack, a quarterback hit and a tackle for loss, all in the first half and a handful of other plays that didn’t show up on the stat sheet.”"
John Dorsey traded for Devaroe Lawrence close to this time last year as the Browns finalized their roster for the 2018 season. Lawrence is now showing the world what Dorsey saw. He won’t only make the team, but will be a key cog in their defensive line rotation.
Braxton Miller is in surprising position to make Cleveland Browns roster
Former Ohio State quarterback-turned-receiver Braxton Miller is trying to make the Browns team and Dan Justik looks at how he has a great shot at getting onto the 53-man roster even though he has only been with the team a short time.
