The Cleveland Browns cut their roster down to 53 players and these three names were the most surprising to see not make it on the team
It’s never a fun day for players who are on the roster bubble as NFL clubs spent Saturday chopping their rosters down to 53 names. For the Cleveland Browns, that meant they released four players, waived 28, had three that they intend to send to IR, and three head to the suspended list — according to their official team site.
Before Saturday, they also made a move to send quarterback David Blough to the Detroit Lions, just one day after playing that very team. Blough played well but lost out to Garrett Gilbert and Drew Stanton as the backups to Baker Mayfield.
Cleveland also added two players as they picked up guard Justin McCray from the Green Bay Packers and wide receiver Taywan Taylor from the Tennessee Titans. There was also the move for Wyatt Teller on Thursday, as Cleveland added the former Buffalo Bills guard to their line as well.
Many of the names that didn’t make the team were expected as several undrafted free agents that didn’t see much time in the preseason were let go. Players such as Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi and J.T. Hassell had great stories but were longshots to make the regular-season roster. Most fans also knew Greg Joseph was going to lose the kicking job to Austin Seibert and the move from Britton Colquitt was predicted by some due to the money saved by going with Jamie Gillan.
But there were some other names we didn’t expect to see on the list of cuts on Saturday. Here we look at the three most surprising names to land on that list.
