Cleveland Browns get season-long permission for color rush uniforms
The Cleveland Browns’ uniforms have been universally panned by fans all 32 teams since debuting in 2015. This year, the Browns will have permission from the NFL to wear their beloved color rush uniforms every home game.
It is rare for a uniform to “mean a lot” to a fanbase, but the Cleveland Browns and their color rush style of alternate uniforms might be one of the few exceptions in the world of sports.
Fortunately for Browns fans, the color rush will be Cleveland’s primary home uniforms during this coming season. The NFL has given the team a special waiver to make an alternate jersey their permanent home uniform.
First leaked on the Browns’ social media app, the announcement came on Wednesday afternoon — one day after teasing that an announcement was coming from the team.
The Browns debuted their color rush uniforms for the first time ever on Thursday Night Football last season, in the now-famous Week 3 bout against the New York Jets. Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield’s grand entrance off the bench and under the lights in Cleveland cemented the jerseys in the hearts of Browns fans, prompting the team to wear them two more times throughout the season.
Color rush’s two other appearances in Cleveland came in Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens, and Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Both resulted in victories, leaving Cleveland 3-0 in the chocolate brown uniforms.
Now, the Browns will get to wear their supposed good luck charm in every home game of the 2019 season. Look good, feel good, play good.
