By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including the defense being boosted by Odell Beckham Jr.’s return.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. did not see any action during the preseason and also was not on the field too often during training camp. Beckham was hindered by a hip injury that is still creating some concern before the regular season opener.
Even with the hip issue, Beckham has returned to the practice field and preparing for the season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Beckham’s presence on the field will give an obvious boost to the Browns offense. With Beckham on the field, the Browns will boast one of the best receiving corps in the NFL.

But as noted in today’s featured article, Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks believes having Beckham on the field during practice is going to help the defense improve as well.

"“It makes us better just competition-wise, knowing that this guy practices hard,” Wilks said. “I don’t know how much you guys are out there, but he’s going full speed every day. So our guys are getting a great look at what it’s going to be like game speed come Sunday.”"
There are not many receivers better than Beckham that the Browns defense will have to face during the 2019 season. With Beckham on the field, the defense is going to be well prepared for any receiver they are tasked with facing during any game in the regular season.
Antonio Brown proves OBJ is not a diva
Antonio Brown has been mired in controversy over the past several weeks with the Oakland Raiders. And with Brown’s recent behavior, Justice Sunderland believes this confirms that Beckham is not the diva that many believe he is.
"“The safe bet would have been to go with Britton,” Priefer said before Thursday’s practice. “He is more consistent, he has been around a long time. I think it would have been very difficult to let a guy like Jamie out of the building. He is so talented. Got such a big leg swing. The sky is the limit for him."
Entering training camp, and even after the first two weeks of the preseason, it still seemed like Jamie Gillan making the roster was a long shot. But Gillan continued to show off the power in his leg and improved his hang time throughout the preseason, making it much harder to release than the Browns anticipated.
Cleveland Browns roster not as deep as we thought
The Cleveland Browns roster looked extremely deep before training camp started and it was believed many of the players who would be cut would make teams elsewhere. But Elliot Kennel notes that not many players waived by the Browns were sought after when they were waived by the Browns.
