Stud: Odell Beckham Jr.

One of the biggest reasons for the optimism surrounding the Cleveland Browns and their home opener was the debut of Odell Beckham Jr. in the orange and brown. After not playing in the preseason, it was the first chance to see how Beckham would perform in a Cleveland Browns uniform.

Although it was not the spectacular Odell Beckham performance NFL fans are used to, Beckham was one of the most consistent players on the field for the Browns on Sunday. With the Browns offense lacking much rhythm, Beckham helped keep the Browns offense moving.

Beckham led the Browns in receiving with seven receptions for 71 yards, with his longest reception going for 24 yards. He showed why he is dangerous by creating space with his route running, and then using his athleticism to get yards after the catch.

It was clear Mayfield was looking for Beckham often, with Beckham leading the team with 11 targets. However, Mayfield may have relied on Beckham too much after one of Mayfield’s interceptions occurred trying to force the ball to Beckham.

Beckham clearly is a dangerous weapon, and he proved that by being a reliable target for Cleveland on Sunday. He looks comfortable catching passes from Mayfield and did not show many chemistry issues that were of concern to some entering the opener. With a better offensive game plan, it is clear Beckham will be a force in the Browns offense.
