Instant reactions to Cleveland Browns Week 2 victory against the Jets
By Dan Justik
The Cleveland Browns were able to bounce back from their Week 1 loss to the Titans, with a 23-3 win over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.
The Cleveland Browns entered Monday night’s game against in a practically must-win game against the New York Jets. They were able to come away with the needed victory, defeating the Jets 23-3.
The Jets entered the game with several key injuries, and it was noticeable. The offense without Sam Darnold looked discombobulated and could not generate any yardage. However, the defense was without two key starters, but still managed to keep the Browns offense in tact.
Even though the Browns came away with the victory, it was still not the dominating win it could have been. They still have issues that the Jets were unable to exploit that they will need to clean up before their Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite the sloppy play, the Browns came away with a much-needed win. Here are the biggest takeaways from their first victory of the 2019 season.
Austin Seibert looks comfortable
The Browns kicking situation was one of the biggest question marks entering the regular season after both Austin Seibert and Greg Joseph struggled during training camp. Seibert won the job, but did not reassure anyone after he missed the first extra point he attempted against the Titans.
But since he missed the extra point, Seibert has looked comfortable. He made his only other extra point against the Titans, and made three field goals, including a 48-yarder, and two extra points against the Jets.
All of Seibert’s kicks against the Jets were right down the middle and did not have any weird movement when it was in the air. When Seibert takes the field, he appears to be confident, helping him with clean technique on his kicks.
The Browns lost several games in 2018 because of kicker issues, and there was concern it would happen again in 2019. But Seibert looks comfortable despite being a rookie kicker. If he continues to build confidence early in the season, Cleveland should not be worried about their kicker.
