Stud: T.J. Carrie

T.J. Carrie was forced into a starting cornerback role with Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward both out with hamstring injuries. However, Carrie rose to the occasion and was arguably the MVP of the defense, making several key plays over the course of the game.

Carrie started the game off with great run support on the edge and he either made the play on Rams running Todd Gurley or forced him to cut back into the arms of another Browns defender.

Later into the game is when Carrie started to show out with his coverage, and did so all over the field. Although he was beat by Cooper Kupp for the Rams first touchdown, he recovered and had several big moments afterwards.

First, he made a phenomenal play when he intercepted a Jared Goff pass after beating Brandin Cooks to the spot and making a diving grab only inches off the ground. The play put the Browns offense in a position to take control of the game, but they were unable to do so.

Then late in the fourth quarter with the Rams in the Browns territory, Carrie played tight coverage and knocked away a Goff pass on a 3rd & 1, giving the Browns offense another chance to get down the field to attempt to tie the game.

Carrie finished the game as Cleveland’s leading tackler with seven total tackles, and was credited with two passes defensed and the one interception.

Cleveland needed someone in the secondary to step up and make plays, and that was Carrie. Carrie’s performance was admirable and gave the Browns defense a spark they desperately needed to keep the Rams offense in check.
