4. Penalties (Still)

There’s no doubt at all that the Cleveland Browns are an undisciplined team. They proved that in Week 1 when they gave up 182 penalty yards on 18 accepted penalties to the Tennessee Titans.

They were in that game for the first 45 minutes somehow, even with the penalties, but then the bottom fell out and the Titans went on a scoring rampage. Head coach Freddie Kitchens took the blame but said it was on everyone afterward.

"“That is not how we practiced. That is not how we prepared. I did not do a very good job of making sure that we did not have penalties. That is just as much the coaches’ fault, my fault, players’ faults. Everybody takes some blame for that.” — Kitchens said following the Week 1 debacle via Matthew Florjancic of WKYC"

They have gotten better since then, but that’s not saying a lot. In Week 2, they had nine penalties accepted for 85 yards in the win over the Jets. In the loss to the Rams in Week 3, there were eight penalties for 60 yards.

Simply put, that’s not good enough. The Browns are giving up far too many free yards in every game and there’s no way they can do this against a Baltimore team who is playing well right now.

If they want to get back in the North race, they need to keep their emotions in check and play the game the right way. All these penalties will only continue to make things harder than they need to be.
