Dud: The Discipline, or lack thereof

If there’s anything that this coaching staff still needs to be criticized for, it’s the way they still have not figured out how to fix their penalty issues. Cleveland entered the week tied for first in the NFL with 34 penalties and they continued to have problems against the Ravens on Sunday.

Overall, they had six penalties which gave Baltimore 41 free yards. That was in comparison to the Ravens having just three for 15 yards — the Browns also had a few more that weren’t accepted which could have made it look even worse.

For whatever reason, this team simply can’t stop shooting themselves in the foot. Guard Eric Kush got things started on offense, getting one early in the game for a false start, something that has been an issue of his.

He wasn’t alone though as there were plenty of mistakes, most of which were much more frustrating than the right guard’s. One of the worst examples came when the Ravens were going for two after scoring in the fourth quarter and the Browns jumped offside to give them an extra yard — and of course, Mark Ingram pounded it in afterward.

Having said that, the refs are also rather infuriating. They were totally cool with the Ravens choking Odell Beckham, Jr. and also called it offsetting fouls when he would fight back against their DBs.

Cleveland has shown improvement from Week 1, but that’s more of an indictment of how bad that game was. They still need to clean up this issue if they want to win this division.
