The Cleveland Browns difficult stretch early in the season continued Week 5 as they could not overcome the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on the road.

The Cleveland Browns were coming into their third prime-time game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers feeling good after their key divisional win over the Ravens last week.

Those good vibes quickly went out the window as the 49ers took control of the game early on their way to a 31-3 victory.

The Browns looked out of sync from the jump, as the offense quickly showed a lot of the problems that hindered them early in the season. Add in the fact the 49ers running attack gashed the Browns defense on their first snap, and it was ultimately a recipe for disaster.

Teams typically have trouble on the field when they make their west coast trips, but the Browns looked outmatched right away. The 49ers had answers to whatever the Browns were doing while the Browns were searching for the entire game to figure out how to slow down San Francisco.

The 49ers coming off a bye week certainly helped them on Monday night, as Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh certainly knew Cleveland’s tendencies. Even as the Browns are searching for an identity, the 49ers had a good feel for what Cleveland was planning.

This could be a case of a rookie head coach still trying to find his way in his new role while a young head coach is starting to get a grasp of what’s needed in the position. But it was clear Freddie Kitchens was being out-coached all night long.

Monday night was likely one of the games the Browns don’t watch much film on considering there were not many good things to takeaway from the game. But one thing is clear after their performance against San Francisco: There is still a lot of work, which is an understatement, that needs to be done in Berea.

Here is a look at which Cleveland Browns played well on Monday night (spoiler alert: not many) and who struggled on against the 49ers.
