The Cleveland Browns have struggled at right guard all season. With the bye week coming, is it time to start preparing Austin Corbett to take over?

Cleveland Browns right guard Eric Kush is not having a good season. He has not turned in the performance that won him the job during training camp. With the offensive line struggling, is it time to give a younger player a chance at the position?

The younger player in question is Austin Corbett. Before you think I am insane for even suggesting such a thing, please hear me out.

Corbett is not Cameron Erving. A quick review of the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Indianapolis Colts will show you that Erving still cannot block at the NFL level. Erving has proven he cannot succeed at this level.

Corbett has not had the opportunity to demonstrate his skills in game situations. He has not missed on blocks allowing free runners to the quarterback on national television. He has not looked so hopelessly bad that he should be considered a lost cause, yet. The keyword here is yet.

But let’s say that Corbett is as bad as everyone fears. Let’s say he goes out a makes Cam Erving look like an All-Pro. Then the Browns will know what they have. They will know he cannot play at this level and can move on from him. Until they figure that out, he is holding a roster spot preventing someone who could figure it out from getting an opportunity.

Even if he does play that awful. It may still be better than what Kush is putting on tape. At least Corbett is young enough and athletic enough to make adjustments and improve. Kush is a finished product who has proven he cannot handle the position.

With the bye week approaching, it might be time to give the second-round pick an opportunity to show what he has got. Whatever he does, it cannot be worse than what Kush is doing.
