Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams back just in time for Cleveland Browns
By Cory Kinnan
After missing the last two games, Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams are set to return for the Cleveland Browns, and it could not have come a second sooner.
After a two-game absence, the Cleveland Browns look to get both of their young starters back at the cornerback position. Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams have both returned to practice for the Browns as they prepare to bounce back against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
While defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has been able to manage the absence of his starting corners with Terrance Mitchell and T.J. Carrie starting in place of Williams and Ward, the injuries in the secondary finally caught up to the Browns in Monday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite throwing for just 181 yards against the Browns’ defense on Monday, Garoppolo was able to complete nearly 70 percent of his passes, two touchdowns, and finished with a quarterback rating of 108.5 on the night. Wilks and the secondary has had to operate without the flexibility it was supposed to have coming into the season.

Now that Ward and Williams are back for the Browns, Wilks will be able to move Carrie back into the nickel, where he has thrived, and Eric Murray will be able to move around and be used in a variety of looks in the secondary. The young tandem could not have come back any sooner for the Browns as they have a couple tough tests ahead.
This Sunday the Browns will look to contain Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson, who has yet to throw an interception this season and looks like the MVP of the league through five games. Ward and Williams will need to stick receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf and force the Seahawks to run the ball behind their subpar offensive line.
After the bye week, giving the duo even more time to recover after their first game back, the Browns will be tasked with taking on the returning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and surefire Hall of Famer Tom Brady. Browns fans know just how explosive former Cleveland receiver Josh Gordon is, and they will also have to deal with former Kent State quarterback-turned-receiver Julian Edelman as well.
While the secondary is the least of the Browns’ worries right now, there is a peace of mind that comes with the return of Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams. With this young and talented duo back, the Browns will have a chance to be the first team to pick off Wilson all season. Book it!
