Cleveland Browns: 5 Seahawks to watch against the Browns
By Joel W. Cade
Will Dissly needs to be contained
Who? Yes, Will Dissly needs contained. Tight ends are the unsung heroes of run-first offenses. They are those hybrid players that can both block and catch passes. These players are worth their weight in gold to any team that has one. They are also the bane of the Browns’ linebackers’ existence.
It is no secret the Browns have struggled to cover linebackers. The Browns were abused last week by George Kittle. The San Francisco 49ers deployed Kittle at will. He pretty much did whatever he wanted against the Browns linebacker corps last week.
This week the Browns will face a similar style tight end this week. Will Dissly blocks effectively and runs crisp routes. He is the primary edge blocker for the zone-based run scheme for the Seahawks.
Much like an old school style offense, his blocking effectively lulls linebackers into thinking he will not run routes. The Seahawks effectively create routes off blocks. Dissly’s blocking ability sets up the fake block into a pass route with ease. It doesn’t register to the defender that he may be running a pass.
The Browns linebacking group has another big week ahead of them. They will need to finally solve the riddle of the blocking tight end/pass-catcher or it will be another long week.
