Cleveland Browns: 5 Seahawks to watch against the Browns
By Joel W. Cade
The Browns should target Tedric Thompson
If the Browns are looking to game plan for the Seattle defense, they should look to attack safety Tedric Thompson. Per Pro Football Focus, Thompson graded poorly (subscription required) in their last game against the Rams. He struggles in coverage and against the run. Don’t be surprised if the Seahawks are not drafting a safety in 2020.
Teams have been taking away wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Browns have been trying creative ways to get him the ball. But instead of focusing so much on Beckham or Jarvis Landry, the best way to attack the Seattle defense may be with seam routes with tight ends ran into Thompson’s zone.
Ricky Seals-Jones proved to be a viable passing threat against the Baltimore Ravens. He has a lot of wide receiver experience and can clearly carry the receiving load left behind in David Njoku’s absence.
Targeting Seals-Jones will open an area in the passing game otherwise neglected. With teams focusing on Beckham, players like Seals-Jones, Antionio Callaway (if ready) and possibly Rashard Higgins this week will have their time to shine.
Stop trying so hard to get Beckham and Landry involved in the offense. Take what the defense is giving you in the passing game. Thompson is a player the Browns have the talent and ability to exploit. Go after him!
