Cleveland Browns vs. Seahawks beat bets
By Leon West
The Cleveland Browns’ sense of urgency is at an all-time high, according to Baker Mayfield. The quarterback will look to bounce back from his worse outing as a pro. Here are some of the best bets against the Seattle Seahawks.
Note: odds courtesy of Bovada as of Sunday morning.
Baker Mayfield over 259.5 passing yards (odds -115)
The Cleveland Browns offense has not played to the level that they feel they could play in all but one game this season. Baker has yet to push the panic button, and team reps have said this was their most efficient practice week of 2019.
That said, the Seahawks surrender 270 passing yards per game. Head coach Freddie Kitchens promises to get the ball into the playmakers’ hands faster to let them operate. Take the over on this one. Mayfield has gone over 325 yards in both of the Browns’, and today he gets back to normalcy after a poor outing in Week 5.
Odell Beckham over 5.5 (+110) receptions. Over 70.5 yards (-115)
Four receptions for 47 yards. That’s Beckham’s last two games combined and the worse stretch of his career. Jarvis Landry said the Browns needed to be deliberate in getting the ball to Beckham, and they will. Expect big targets for Odell. Since the offensive line has issues, screen passes and quick outs might be the formula to soften up the Seahawks secondary to take shots down the field. Take the over.
Chris Carson under 80.5 yards
This isn’t about Carson. It’s more about the Browns defense. Myles Garrett stressed that the defensive was not comfortable in their loss against the San Francisco 49ers. They were stunting and twisting and playing themselves out of position. The team has learned a valuable lesson.
Expect Steve Wilks to load the box early to force the wide receivers of the Seahawks to beat them. With a possible return of the entire starting, secondary Wilks will more than likely take his chances against this receiving core.
Rashard Higgins scores a touchdown (+250)
Higgins has missed the past four contests with a knee injury but has been a safety blanket for Mayfield. When Higgins was targeted in the red zone last season, he amassed a 100 percent catch rate and three touchdowns.
Also, during the first drive of the preseason, he caught a touchdown in the red zone. During the first game of the regular season, his 35-yard catch set up the first touchdown of the year. Look for that red zone success to continue today.
