With the Cleveland Browns offense struggling, it’s easy to point the finger at several places. One of the main reasons for the early struggles on offense has been the offensive line, and adding Trent Williams is a must for John Dorsey to get this team where they want to be.

The offseason of trades and big moves by general manager John Dorsey were supposed to help take this team to the next level. However, it has seemed to add a higher sense of pressure around this Cleveland Browns team.

The addition of Odell Beckham Jr, along with another year of experience under the belts of Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb, was supposed to take this team to the promised land.

Dorsey, however, failed to improve one of the bigger holes in the Browns roster: the offensive line. While veteran journeyman Greg Robinson played really well down the stretch in 2018 but has shown in 2019 why he has failed to be a mainstay with any organization as a starting left tackle.

The right side of the offensive line has also been rather disappointing, as guard Eric Kush and right tackle Chris Hubbard have struggled to provide much pass protection to Mayfield.

Veteran left tackle Trent Williams has been holding out all season, and refuses to play for the Washington Redskins organization. He cites several reasons, mainly the lack of competency in their medical staff, among other reasons. Williams is the missing link that the Browns offensive line needs.

The line has struggled to allow Mayfield time to take the time needed to let plays develop and hit his receivers downfield. As great a duo as Beckham and Jarvis Landry are, they still need time to run their routes and get open. Mayfield needs a guy he can trust to protect his blindside and allow him the time to sit back, find the open receiver, and make the plays he made down the stretch in 2018.

John Dorsey hasn’t been afraid to make splash moves in his short stint with the Browns. He shouldn’t be afraid to make this move either. He needs to admit he made a mistake by not addressing the offensive line sooner and make a trade, no matter what it takes, for Trent Williams.

He can’t afford to sit by and let this current offensive line continue to squander a chance to win games. With the hits and pressure that Mayfield is under, it could easily wear him down and make him vulnerable to injury.
