The Cleveland Browns are a natural fit to trade for Trent Williams, but Washington will reportedly not trade the left tackle to Cleveland this season.

The Cleveland Browns are in need of help on the offensive line, but they will not be getting any help from the Washington Redskins. Washington has turned down Cleveland’s trade inquiries for left tackle Trent Williams and they will not be trading him this season, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

While meeting with the media on Wednesday, Browns general manager John Dorsey admitted he talked with Washington about a potential trade, which all signs point to Williams. But Dorsey said it takes “two to tango” to make a deal.

Although he has been sitting out for the entire season, Williams is the best offensive tackle who would make sense to be traded. However, Washington has been stubborn with the Williams situation and seem to be perfectly content having him sit out all of 2019 and then trade him in the offseason.

The addition Williams would instantly improve the Browns offensive line, who has allowed plenty of hurries from the tackle positions. It seems Dorsey has known that, as Garafolo notes the Browns general manager has been calling Washington for a while now.

"“It’s not like a one time thing that [John Dorsey] called and said, ‘Hey are you trading Trent Williams?’ From my understanding, he has called the Redskins every single week for like the past month and a half. And every single time the Redskins have said we are not trading this guy.” – Mike Garafolo"

Dorsey has been known to be an aggressive decision-maker, so it would not be surprising to see him make a deal for an offensive linemen. But with several teams struggling to find quality offensive linemen, it will be hard to find a team willing to trade one away.

The Browns seem to be keen on improving the play of the offensive line and they are willing to make changes to do so. Cleveland is reportedly planning on benching starting left tackle Greg Robinson after the bye week, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

If the report is true, it will lead to even more questions about the offensive line. Robinson has been inconsistent, but the Browns do not have many options behind him to take over. The only tackle behind Robinson is Kendall Lamm, who has not shown much as a starter in his career.

It is clear that Dorsey is not satisfied with the play of the offensive line and is willing to make a big move to improve the group. With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, Dorsey only has a short time left to make a deal for an offensive linemen. But no matter what, a trade won’t for Trent Williams won’t be in the cards.
