5. Nick Chubb will Show a Flaw in Patriots Defense

The Browns offensive line hasn’t been great in pass protection this year but they have been blocking for well in the run. That can been seen in the production of Nick Chubb. The second year back out of Georgia is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and over 100 yards per game.

That’s not what makes this prediction bold. New England has the top defense in the league and they also have the second ranked rush defense  allowing just 74 yards per game. Belichick is also a great defensive coach.

Those both sound like strengths but the Patriots rush defense may not be as good as the numbers say they are. They have only faced one test at running back this year.

They have faced Le’Veon Bell twice but one of those games was without Sam Darnold so they could really sell out to stop Bell in the run. The second time they faced Bell, Darnold infamously said he was “seeing ghosts” and the whole offense looked that way.

They faced James Connor in the first game of the season but nobody is cinfusing him for being great.

They’ve also faced Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson which may be the oldest possible combination of running backs in the NFL and their best days are behind them. When they played the New York Giants Saquon Barkley was hurt.

When that’s the list of running backs you have played, you should be one of the best run defenses. It’s not a stretch to say that Nick Chubb is the best back they have faced all season.

Cleveland will have to rely on Chubb because their passing game has not been good and this is probably not the week that is going to change.
