Greg Robinson benched by Cleveland Browns, can it hurt Baker Mayfield in Patriots game?
By Cory Kinnan
Two days before the Cleveland Browns are set to take on the Patriots, Tom Brady, and the NFL’s top ranked defense, the team has benched Greg Robinson.
In just two short days the Cleveland Browns will return from their bye week and take on the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Just in time for the game, left tackle Greg Robinson told the media today that he has spoken to general manager John Dorsey and has been benched.
Clevelanddotcom’s Mary Kay Cabot reported earlier last week that this decision was rumored, and Robinson confirmed it today. It is expected that Justin McCray will get the start at left tackle with Robinson set to see the bench.
McCray was acquired by the Browns at the end of training camp as teams were set to make their cutdowns; Dorsey swapped undisclosed 2020 picks with the Green Bay Packers in order to obtain McCray, and now he is set to make his second start of the season for the Browns.

As Chris Hubbard was dealing with a foot injury in week three, McCray started at right tackle against the Los Angeles Rams. McCray has earned a grade of 64.1 according to Pro Football Focus, which is below Robinson’s grade, but Dorsey and head coach Freddie Kitchens have seen enough to make the switch.
Cleveland may not be done making moves along the offensive line, as Dorsey is still attempting to make a move for a tackle at the trade deadline. Additionally, it was rumored that Wyatt Teller may have a chance to take over at right guard for Eric Kush as well; rookie sixth round pick was activated from injured reserve yesterday too, giving the Browns plenty of option moving forward.
It is hard to see the brown and orange shaking things up too much more along the offensive line as they are getting set to take on the top rated Patriots’ defense on Sunday. For now, it is out with Robinson, likely in with McCray as the Browns hope to save their season.
