The Cleveland Browns are fresh off their bye week and can change the feel of the entire season by stealing a win over New England. But can they do it?

Coming into Week 8 at 2-4, the Cleveland Browns are about to face their toughest opponent of the season as they travel to Foxborough to play the defending NFL champion New England Patriots.

The Patriots are not exactly the team that you would want to see when you’re coming off of a bye and looking to turn things around. It will be sink or swim territory and the Browns are jumping into the deepest pool in the league.

The Patriots’ defense comes into this week 8 matchup executing at a level that has never been witnessed in the modern NFL. The Patriots have had six touchdowns scored against them, but only three of those have been against the defense. Those are unheard of numbers.

The Patriots have also been taking the ball away from opposing offenses at a jaw-dropping rate. So far on the season they have 18 interceptions and have returned two of those for touchdowns. They have also forced eight fumbles and have returned two of those for touchdowns. The defending Superbowl champs are playing at a truly historical level.

On offense, the Patriots haven’t been lighting the world on fire, but with the defense they have, they really don’t need to do too much. Tom Brady and company are doing enough to get the job done, but this isn’t the offense most are accustomed to in New England. Although they are well balanced and have the ability to do whatever coach Belichicks game plan calls for on any given week.

The area where the Patriots can change the game the quickest is on special teams. So far this season the Patriots have blocked two punts and have returned both for touchdowns. The Patriots’ ability to play complementary football makes them dangerous in all three phases.

So can the Browns pull it off? That’s the question some of the DPD crew tries to answer in this week’s predictions. As always, if you like the writer’s style, click on their name to see more of their work.
