Cleveland Browns News: Freddie Kitchens not surrendering play-calling
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Freddie Kitchens keeping play-calling duties.
Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens has not managed being a head coach well in his first year at the position. One of the causes for that problem is that he has too big of a workload being the offensive play-caller as well.
Kitchens won the head coaching position because of his work as a play-caller and how he built his relationship with Baker Mayfield. Kitchens’ creativity and aggressiveness on the offensive side of the ball was exactly what the unit needed.
But now, as Kitchens struggles dealing with game management issues and his team not executing, Kitchens being the offensive play caller may be too much. And with experienced offensive coordinator Todd Monken in the booth, Kitchens has someone who can be a solid play-caller.

It would be a tough decision to give up the play-calling duties when it was his ability in that aspect that helped him win the head coaching position. But when he is struggling in the other aspects of being a head coach, Kitchens should not be so stubborn when asked about the idea.

Two-fumble game does little to slow the Nick Chubb bandwagon – Steve Doerschuk, Akron Beacon Journal
"Browns coach Freddie Kitchens views Chubb as an exemplary leader. It was hard for Kitchens, though, to demand accountability from players who committed mistakes without giving Chubb a dose of medicine."
Nick Chubb has clearly been the best play-maker for the Browns offense the entire season. However, his two fumbles against the Patriots proved to be very costly. But with how much he does for the Browns, the fumbles are not going diminish what Chubb brings to Cleveland’s offense.
