The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a peak at the struggles of the left tackles.

The Cleveland Browns have struggled throwing the ball in 2019, and some of the blame goes towards the offensive line. Although they aren’t responsible for every pressure allowed, they have allowed a few too many.

Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens has placed some of the offensive line struggles on left tackle Greg Robinson, who started the first six games of the season. Kitchens decided to bench Robinson after the bye week, as Justin McCray took over the starting left tackle duties against the Patriots.

Although he was put into a tough situation going up against a nearly unstoppable Patriots defense, McCray had plenty of issues in New England. McCray struggled in pass protection and also run blocking, but did have some good moments when asked to run block.

How Justin McCray’s left tackle debut compares to Greg Robinson this season – Scott Patsko, Cleveland.com

"Against the Patriots, McCray allowed five pressures, one sack and committed one penalty (false start). He had the worst offensive grade (32.3) and pass-blocking grade (22.8) on the team, according to PFF. His run-blocking grade (49.2) was only ahead of Eric Kush (44.4) among the linemen"

For not being a prototypical NFL offensive tackle, McCray struggling against the Patriots was not surprising. But what is surprising is the Browns decided to bench Robinson for a player who likely would not be an upgrade at the position, especially considering Robinson has not been terrible in 2019.

Browns passing on Trent Williams was the best move for the future

The Cleveland Browns were being heavily linked to Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams at the trade deadline, but did not make a deal. Randy Gurzi thinks passing on Williams was the best move the Browns could have made for their future.

Baker Mayfield is on an island and Browns should be deeply concerned – Dan Wetzel, Yahoo Sports

"Mayfield is right about that. There shouldn’t be — and really hasn’t been — anyone questioning his want to win.Knowing how to win in the NFL, let alone having anyone around him capable of steadying the ship and showing him how, is the real issue."

Baker Mayfield is clearly not the same player he was during his rookie season when he showed the talent of being the next young gunslinger. But the Browns have put him into a tough situation in 2019 with a rookie head coach and a weak offensive line. The Browns need to help him grow and develop, and they have not done so in 2019.

Browns need somebody to be a leader in the locker room

The Cleveland Browns are currently in a downward spiral that seems to be getting out of control. Justice Sunderland believes if a player does not step up and become a leader in the locker room, the season could become even more of a circus.
