Jermaine Whitehead was described as a leader before this season. He has presented himself to be anything but, and sunk to a new low following the Cleveland Browns Week 9 loss

The Cleveland Browns suffered a massive setback in a season of setbacks in a 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Their defense struggled to tackle, and safety Jermaine Whitehead had a hand in this struggle many times.

Whitehead took to Twitter after the game, with threats sent out to anyone critical of his play:

Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks described Whitehead as a leader of the defense and as a smart football player. Before the season began, he was touting his incredible ability to communicate and get the players in position to succeed.

When the defensive coordinator describes a player as a leader and smart, he cannot go on Twitter after a tough loss, call people derogatory names and threaten to kill them. The question this raises is how was Wilks’ so wrong?

Whitehead’s play this season has been below average, excluding one crisp performance against the Baltimore Ravens where he had a hand in three turnovers. He has been far from a leader, whether it is off the field or in the statistical category.

Cleveland got this player wrong, and his antics on Twitter further proved that he needs to be relieved of his spot on this team. The Browns have enough going on, the last thing they need to do is keep a player threatening people on social media.

The question now will be whether or not he’s a member of the team much longer, because surely no one in the front office will condone those tweets.

dark. Next. Kitchens is the wrong coach for the wrong time

UPDATE: The Browns issued a statement saying they do not condone the language or behavior of Whitehead. They claim the matter will be dealt with internally. Although, the league might decide they want to help with any discipline as well.
