Cleveland Browns get their third win of the season, resign J.C. Tretter

The Cleveland Browns have just two wins on the field but got a third on Thursday when they re-signed center J.C. Tretter to a three-year extension
On the field, the Cleveland Browns have struggled in 2018, winning just two of their first eight games. On Thursday, they got a huge win off the field as they were able to come to terms on a three-year extension with starting center J.C. Tretter .
In all, Tretter will get $32.5 million over the next three seasons, which is really a good deal for what he brings to the table. While the Browns offensive line has had their issues this season, Tretter has been a steady force for them in the middle of the line.
Tretter joined the Browns in 2017 on a three-year free-agent deal worth $16.75 million after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers. 2019 was the final season Tretter was under contract on that deal and there was a time it seemed as though they wouldn’t be looking to extend him.
Cleveland drafted Austin Corbett in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft and used him at guard as a rookie then tried him at center this year. He was unable to earn the team’s trust and was shipped to the Los Angeles Rams as they admitted he wasn’t a fit.
With that door closed, general manager John Dorsey turned his attention to the 28-year old Tretter who has started the last 40 games for the Browns despite dealing with several nagging injuries over the past couple of seasons.
The center position is underrated as a whole and Cleveland was smart to make sure they didn’t have to go into the next few seasons without a quality starter.
