Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett lost his cool when he swung Mason Rudolph’s own helmet at his head. Could it lead to a ban for the remainder of the 2019 season?

The Cleveland Browns earned their fourth win of the year as they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-7 on Thursday Night Football. Unfortunately, no one will be talking about that win nearly as much as they’ll discus the ugly events that transpired at the end of the game.

With just seconds remaining in the contest, defensive end Myles Garrett got into an unnecessarily violent brawl with Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph.

Surely every football fan has seen it by now, but in case you haven’t, the two got tangled up and after Rudolph went for Garrett’s helmet, the defensive end ripped off Rudolph’s and struck him over the head.

A brawl ensued as Maurkice Pouncey ended up going after Garrett and even kicked him when he was down. Surely both players will be disciplined but there’s no question Cleveland’s defender will get the harshest penalty — as he should. The question becomes how harsh it will be.

Well according to some, it could be the remainder of 2019. That’s exactly what Trevor Sikkema of The Draft Network says needs to happen.

"”However, plain and simple, Garrett’s gotta’ be done. He can’t play again in 2019. No way. I’ve seen people say that his suspension is probably going to be 2-6 weeks — it has to be at least two because they can’t let him play in the second meeting between these two teams in a few weeks — but if you allow Garrett to come back and play this season you’re sending the worst message and setting the worst precedent.” — Sikkema, The Draft Network"

For those wanting to say Rudolph instigated it, that’s true. And Sikkema even says the signal-caller isn’t innocent. Still, that’s no excuse for what Garrett did. And it’s also not his first action.

Sikkema continued to point that out as he reminisced about Garrett punching Delanie Walker of the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 after the whistle. He also cost Trevor Siemian his season with a late hit — something he’s done more than once in 2019.

It’s all a shame too because Garrett has been playing lights out this season and even had hopes of winning the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The problem is, his emotions and lack of discipline have continually gotten the best of him.

Next. Week 11 Studs and duds. dark

Chances are the league will make an example out of him, and they likely should. He went too far and it sadly overshadowed what should have been a great moment for this team.
