Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry gets an early birthday present with his first opportunity to play against his former team, the Dolphins, this Sunday

When Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey began to assemble his roster, the first move he made was to make Jarvis Landry a Cleveland Brown. Dorsey traded the Miami Dolphins a fourth-round pick (2018) and a seventh-round pick (2019) to land the talented receiver. The move served two vital purposes, it added much-needed talent to the offense, but just as importantly it ushered in a new attitude in the locker room.

It wasn’t until later that Landry divulged that the Dolphins coach at the time, Adam Gase, would threaten to ship players off to Cleveland as a punishment. The fact that Landry was indeed traded to Cleveland is all the indication that one would need to know that his tenure with the Dolphins ended unceremoniously. The tables have certainly turned in the subsequent two-years that have passed.

This Sunday, “Juice” Landry gets his first crack at the team who shipped him off to Cleveland. It’s unknown if he considers it a ‘revenge game’, but what player wouldn’t want to show out against his former team. Especially if they were traded away as a form of punishment.

It should be noted that Sunday is the same day Landry will be throwing a birthday bash, with all of Cleveland being invited.

Sometimes the stars align like that in the NFL. It is safe to assume that the candles will be lit at 1 PM Sunday at First Energy Stadium. Hopefully, there will be cake and presents to follow, we won’t know that until around 4 PM on Sunday.

These external circumstances won’t play into the game planning on Sunday, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the ball won’t find Landry more than a few times in this matchup. Given the fact that external circumstances never seem to be lost on Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, there will more than likely be a couple of predetermined throws that make their way to Landry.

The chemistry between Landry and Mayfield has been increasingly evident in recent weeks. Mayfield has been leaning heavily on Landry in tight high-pressure spots during the last two games. More often than not, Landry has been coming through for his quarterback.

Landry has also scored a touchdown in three straight games and will be looking to keep that streak going. If he is able to find the end zone again this Sunday it will have to mean a little more to him than just another touchdown. It will definitely mean even more if the Browns take care of business and get their third straight win.
