Time to re-sign

Of the players scheduled to leave, Joe Schobert is the most obvious layer to re-sign. Schobert is a very smart and hustling ballplayer who is also a team leader. He deserves a major pay raise, and so the major problem is deciding on the right amount.

Damarious Randall is getting paid $9.1 million this year, and likely he and his agent have visions of getting a similar haul for 2020. However, he has not played as well as last year, and in particular, in the Pittsburgh game, he took himself out of the game by making a dirty hit and getting disqualified —  at a time when the Browns were already short on defensive backs due to the injury to Morgan Burnett.

So good luck with that. It’s doubtful whether the Browns will remain interested in an undisciplined ballplayer.

Greg Robinson has not been a great left tackle, but on the other hand, he is not getting a huge contract compared to other left tackles in the NFL. You can’t have All-Pros at every position and he is probably worth $6 million a year.

Will the two sides be able to agree? Maybe not, and if Robinson is lost they may need to find a left tackle.

Rashard Higgins is perplexing because he is not on the field very often — only 18 percent of the total offensive snaps — despite the fact that he seems to perform well with Baker Mayfield. He probably should be re-signed; however it seems that John Dorsey has other ideas, so regrettably, it probably will not happen.

Eric Murray has been a good but not great safety for the Brown. Though not a great player, he is worth the relatively low amount that the Browns pay for him.
