Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been known to lead surprising wins, and he could the Cleveland Browns problems on Sunday.

Based on talent, there is no earthly way that the Miami Dolphins should beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. However, quarterback Ryan “Fitzmagic” Fitzpatrick has the reputation of being able to pull a rabbit out of his hat every so often, and he is a threat to engineer an upset.

Fans can insult the guy all they want. He’s 36-years-old, slowing down, and he’s a “game manager.”  Game manager is about the worst insult you can throw at a quarterback these days because it has come to mean someone who is not very athletic and can’t throw a football.

However that is not true. Managing the game has to do with throwing the ball away instead of taking a sack; calling time outs at the right point in the game; checking down against the blitz, knowing when the quarterback can scramble for a first down and that sort of thing.

Doing all the things that are necessary to win football games. All the great ones managed the game well, and that is usually more important than the ability to chuck the ball down the field 50 yards.

If arm strength were the most important thing, Josh Rosen would be the quarterback of the team. Rosen was able to chuck a football accurately at least 65 yards in the air.

Rosen had an opportunity earlier this year, but Dolphins head coach Brian Flores decided to go with the bearded old fossil when Rosen just did not get the job done. Perhaps Rosen is the opposite of Fitzpatrick, with all the arm strength in the world but not as much ability to manage the game, at least not at this point in his career.

The Fish started out this season by losing their first three games by…133 to 16?? That is not a misprint. Baltimore, New England and Dallas took turns destroying the Dolphins. But to Miami’s credit, they have started to swim right recently with victories over the Jets and Colts. The Dolphins have been in the game most of the time in the past month or so.

The 15-year veteran will be presented with a unique opportunity on Sunday, with superstar Myles Garrett out. In addition, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will be serving his suspension, meaning that Chad Thomas gets the start in Garrett’s spot and Devaroe Lawrence will likely start in place of Ogunjobi.

The Browns will also be short-handed in the defensive backfield with Morgan Burnett out for the year with a ruptured Achilles. Juston Burris will be at strong safety in his place, with some appearances by Eric Murray also if he is healthy.

dark. Next. Three Dolphins to watch for in Week 12 matchup

Fitzpatrick may have time to throw on Sunday and his receivers may have an extra split second to get open. That could be a formula to score points. Fitzpatrick is expected to go on Sunday, but due to a shoulder injury it is not certain that he will start. Rosen might get another shot.
