Mack Wilson

Fifth-round pick Mack Wilson has been a diamond in the rough from John Dorsey’s second draft in Cleveland. Much like Genard Avery in 2018, the Browns found a defensive piece with a skill-set they liked in the late rounds, and let their defensive coordinator have his way with him. Unlike Genard Avery, however, Wilson has actually seen the field in orange and brown in 2019.

It’s obvious at this point why Wilson has found himself firmly entrenched in the Browns’ defensive rotation. Not only does he have an aggressive edge to him that defensive coordinator Steve Wilks loves, but his athletic ability as a linebacker is like none other that the Browns have.

Going all the way back to the first preseason contest against the Washington Redskins, Wilson’s ball skills and athletic talents made him a highlight of the game. While there was a learning curve, it seems that Wilson has taken a lot from middle linebacker Joe Schobert and should be here to stay in Cleveland’s defensive lineup.

Now, Wilson will get the chance to prove his worth once against Cleveland’s arch rival. The Alabama product fell far in the draft due to some effort concerns, but he has shown the Browns that he is willing to put the work in and make some dynamic plays for their defense.
