On the eve of arguably their most important game of the season, Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens has gone viral with a picture of the coach wearing a “Pittsburgh Started It” t-shirt. What does it mean? In my opinion, not much.

Ever since Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett swung Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph‘s own helmet at Rudolph, tomorrow’s rematch at Heinz Field has been circled. The NFL league offices moved the game from the “premium” 4:00 time slot to 1:00.

The referees will undoubtedly be calling a tight game. I can’t even imagine what could break out at the tailgates outside the stadium tomorrow.

To that end, the Browns have done a fairly good job of diffusing any potential flashpoints. In fact, for the better part of the week, the Steelers were the team that was making headlines for the wrong reasons.

And then, the photo happened.

Freddie Kitchens has gone viral. A picture has surfaced of Kitchens wearing one of the “Pittsburgh Started It” t-shirts that were created by GV Art + Apparel in Lakewood.

According to Kitchens, the t-shirt was a gift from one of his daughters and it was in that spirit that he was wearing the shirt. Can Browns fans criticize Kitchens for a lack of judgment? Perhaps. In 2019, it’s hard to ignore the possibility that such a photo could be posted online.

But so what?

The reality is, Cleveland Browns co-owner Dee Haslam appeared at First Energy Stadium sporting a cap that prominently displayed Garrett’s number “95”. No such criticism was leveled at Mrs. Haslam. But Kitchens remains the coach Browns fans love to hate so this is seen as an example of Freddie creating bulletin board material for the Steelers.

Maybe he has. I’m more concerned about whatever the situation is going on with safety Damarious Randall and/or tight end David Njoku. You know, actual players that can affect the outcome of a game.

In the meantime, Kitchens did what any Dad would do. He wore a gift from his daughter and he’s now embarrassed that daughter by having his picture go viral on the internet.

That is something for Kitchens to be worried about. Giving the Pittsburgh Steelers fake motivation — not so much.
