Keep the Pressure on Devlin Hodges

This headline works in more ways than one. Let’s break it down.

Number one, the Browns need to get pressure on Devlin Hodges as they did on Mason Rudolph in Week 11.

Even without Myles Garrett, the team of Larry Ogunjobi, Sheldon Richardson, and the returning Olivier Vernon should be able to generate some sort of pass rush on Hodges and Pittsburgh’s offensive line.

Hodges’s combination of above-average mobility on the field and pinpoint accuracy is what got him attention while at Samford. The Browns have to work to keep him contained and not let him slip out of the pocket. Collapsing the 6-foot-1 Hodges’s pocket could make for some ugly throws that the Browns can capitalize on throughout the game.

Number two, the Browns need to make Hodges beat him. In Week 13, the Steelers will be sending out their least talented offense in quite some time. Long gone are the days of the “Killer B’s” with Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown. Now, the Steelers will have to rely on Hodges, along with Benny Snell and Diontae Johnson.

If the Browns can bring the running game and make Hodges throw to beat them, they should’ve the upper hand on the Steelers in a huge way. Not to mention, throwing the ball is going to be difficult in this weather.
