Cleveland Browns build for future in 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
This past season, John Dorsey decided he needed to make some moves at linebacker. He released Jamie Collins — who predictably went back to the New England Patriots — and then signed Adarius Taylor from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He wasn’t done there as he also drafted Sione Takitaki out of BYU in the third round and Mack Wilson from Alabama in the fifth. Out of those three additions, Wilson has been the best — and the only one to get consistent playing time.
Taylor has suited up for 11 games but has just one tackle. Takitaki has played the same number of games and has seven tackles. Both of them have mostly been seen on special teams, but Wilson has been on the base defense quite a bit — especially since Christian Kirksey was sent to the injured reserve.
Wilson has 10 starts in 12 games played and has 55 tackles, four pass defenses, a forced fumble, and one sack. As encouraging as his play has been, the Browns will still need to address the position this offseason.
The recent additions allow them to wait until the later rounds of the draft to bring anyone in and they get a solid value here in LSU’s Patrick Queen. The junior linebacker has had a big season for the Tigers, racking up 65 tackles, seven for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. He also recorded his first career interception.
He should be able to help on special teams coverage units early on while honing his skills in hopes of contributing on the base defense one day.
