Is there a chance Baker Mayfield misses Week 14?
By Randy Gurzi
Baker Mayfield didn’t throw the ball during the open media portion of practice. Does this mean the Cleveland Browns quarterback could miss Week 14?
The Cleveland Browns lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 13 and it was almost much worse as Baker Mayfield injured his throwing hand and had to head to the locker room just before the second quarter ended.
When attempting a pass, Mayfield’s hand came down on the helmet of Steelers edge rusher Bud Dupree. He then headed off to get that hand checked out.
He ended up returning to the game but afterward, he was seen leaving the stadium with his hand heavily wrapped. Since then, another injury has popped up as well as Mayfield was listed with a rib injury on Wednesday.
Now, the question of whether or not he can suit up on Sunday is making the rounds. Baker says he will be good to go but then when the team opened up their practice to the media, he wasn’t throwing.
Jeff Schudel of the News-Harold shared the following tweet explaining what he saw during the open media session.
In all honesty, this is probably just a precautionary thing. Mayfield didn’t seem too worried when he spoke to the media and he surely wants to end this season on a good note.
In Week 14, Cleveland will host their in-state rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals who enter the week with a record of 1-11.
The Browns are 5-7 and are looking for their first winning season since 2007. It’s going to be tough now to accomplish that but it isn’t impossible.
Of course, it would be close to impossible if No. 6 ended up having to miss time with his injuries.
