Chandler Jones

To put it bluntly, Chandler Jones is going to be a problem for the Cleveland Browns offensive tackles. Jones is a rangy, supremely athletic pass rusher who currently sits at second in the NFL in sacks with 14. The eight-year pro has a great motor, and his 14 sacks in only 13 games along with his 60 quarterback pressures are a direct correlation of that.

The Cardinals move Jones around, but in recent weeks he has spent more time lined up on the right offensive tackle. The Browns would be wise to put Kendall Lamm in that position this week given his strength is pass blocking and Jones forte is rushing the quarterback.

The Browns also need to avoid having Baker Mayfield take deep dropbacks on long-developing pass plays. The odds of Jones being able to get to Mayfield are in the Cardinals’ favor in those situations. The best way to negate a pass rusher of Jones caliber is to stay run-heavy in your offensive approach and use play action to open it up through the air.

If the Browns stay the course having Mayfield routinely take seven-step drops, then Jones will be able to play to his strengths. While the talented pass rusher has 14 sacks, he also has 18 quarterback hits. Those can be as detrimental to the health of your quarterbacks as the sacks are. Jones will wreak havoc if the Browns do not play it smart on Sunday.
