Njoku gets back on the scoreboard

David Njoku finally made his long-awaited return from the injured reserve last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Let’s just say that his return didn’t provide the jolt in the arm for the offense that everyone was hoping for. The ‘Chief’ was targeted three times but only hauled in one reception for a whopping four yards.

What people will remember the most about Njoku’s return was the first time he was targeted. The Browns were driving the ball down the field on their first possession of the game. It was first and ten from the Cincinnati 28-yard line. Mayfield threw a short pass to Njoku over the middle of the field.

The tight end appeared to have made the catch, but when he went to the ground, the ball was wrestled away from him by Bengal linebacker Nick Vigil. After review, the referee ruled that it was not a fumble, but instead inexplicably ruled it an interception. Not exactly the reintroduction to the offense that Njoku or the fans had hoped for.

This Sunday, Njoku is going to make a positive impact on the game as well as the scoreboard. Mayfield will go to the athletic tight end in the red zone and throw him a fade jump ball by the back pylon. Njoku will bring it down and get to execute his patented ‘Chief Slam’.
