With the Cleveland Browns being all but eliminated from the playoffs, it’s safe to say the Freddie Kitchens experiment has failed. Here are five college head coaches that could replace Freddie Kitchens as head coach in 2020.

Following a game where Freddie Kitchens was outcoached by Kliff Kingsbury, a coach everyone considers just a college coach, it seems inevitable that Kitchens is out the door as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

While there have been several times this season that has been said, most notably after every loss where the team looked lost, undisciplined, and the questionable play-calling and decision making by Kitchens and his staff, it’s almost a certainty following the latest performance that Kitchens won’t be retained headed into the 2020 season.

With his potential firing comes the question Browns fans have heard and asked for a long time; who’s next? While the head coaching job for the Browns has been a carousel since the team returned to Cleveland, keeping a coach just to stop the revolving door isn’t a good move.

If Kitchens had shown improvement in his game-planning or coaching, it would be a bit easier to convince everyone to keep him for one more season.

More often than not, however, Kitchens has done the same thing over and over again, be it refusing to hand it to Chubb consistently, refusing to change his receiver’s routes and schemes to get them open, or help his young quarterback by giving him easier reads and options to help his development.

With the NFL adopting more college schemes and adapting its play to fit the new skillset of players entering the league, getting a college coach that has proven himself at that level wouldn’t be a bad move for the Cleveland Browns to consider.
