5. Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma University

Lincoln Riley was a popular name in just about every NFL coaching search in 2019, and he figures to be a big name again this offseason. Every team would love to have the next offensive mastermind on their sideline, and Lincoln Riley would be just that.

Not only would he be a great and innovative mind that could help any team in need of an offensive spark, but he would also bring a fresh new mind and new ideas to the NFL overall.

Riley took over as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners in 2017 after Bob Stoops surprisingly retired. He led Oklahoma to a 12-1 record that year, with an explosive offense led by Baker Mayfield, to the College Football Playoff. Riley and Baker had the Sooners in the game until the end but ultimately lost to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Since Lincoln Riley took over as head coach at Oklahoma, the team has been top five in all of college football in total yards and scoring, while remaining one of the best teams in regard to protecting the ball and avoiding penalties.

Pairing Riley with Mayfield once again would not only benefit Baker, but also Riley. Having worked together before, the two would be very comfortable in knowing each other’s tendencies.

Mayfield would also greatly benefit from having one of the best quarterback gurus in all of football to help him progress after a rather inconsistent season overall from the second-year gunslinger.

Hiring a guy with the football I.Q. of Riley would be a home run hire for John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns. Imagine what having a coach that knows what to do to get his best players the ball when needed and game planning appropriately?

With the explosive playmaking potential of the players that the Browns have on offense, Lincoln Riley should be one of the first calls made by John Dorsey.
