The Cleveland Browns are reportedly out on Freddie Kitchens just after claiming they were not. And rumors are already suggesting Josh McDaniels could be their guy.

Things can change quickly in the NFL. If you need proof of that, ask Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens.

Just before his team took the field against the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend, the front office was issuing a vote of confidence in him as their coach. However, there was a caveat.

Management wanted him to be the guy but they said this would remain true as long as there was no disastrous finish to the season. Then Kitchens and the Browns looked like a dumpster fire.

They were manhandled by the Cardinals and now the tune has changed. There are no more reports about Kitchens having any supporters in Berea and now, potential replacements are being named.

Rumors out there are suggesting that Josh McDaniels, current New England Patriots offensive coordinator, is a favorite of Dee Haslam, one of the Browns owners. This news comes from an unverified source but does have some legs according to Lane from the Orange and Brown Report.

Of course, it’s way too early to tell anything right now and just because someone in the organization is ‘interested’ in a coach does not mean they’re about to make a move.

Still, the name Josh McDaniels is going to raise some eyebrows. He’s one of the more recognizable names in terms of potential head coaches but it’s not always for good reasons.

McDaniels was previously a head coach for the Denver Broncos and completely blew up their roster before drafting Tim Tebow. He was gone before finishing his second season and ended up making his way back to New England.

He then took the head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts last season. only to bail just before the press conference — and after hiring assistants.

The change of heart likely had to do with the health of Andrew Luck, who is now retired, but McDaniels still handled that poorly.

Should he become a target, the fan base will likely voice their displeasure and it would be hard to blame them — even if he makes sense from an X’s and O’s standpoint.
