Mitchell Schwartz, Chiefs’ Iron Man

This year Mitchell Schwartz had to leave the field for the first time in his nine-year NFL career, ending his consecutive snap streak at 7,894. He was in second place to his former teammate and buddy Joe Thomas, who of course is the record holder with 10,363.

It’s unbelievable that anyone could even come remotely close to Thomas, but if anyone could challenge, it would be his buddy Schwartz, who is graded as the fifth-best offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus. He was also voted first-team All-Pro in 2018.

Schwartz and his agent sinned by turning down Sashi Brown’s offer in order to test the free-agent market back in 2016. Finding that the Browns’ offer was the best, Schwartz asked to re-enlist with Cleveland, but Brown took the offer off the table.

That was the year that the Browns had to use six quarterbacks because they could not protect anyone — so yeah, that was probably a mistake on his part.

Frankly, the Browns have never been able to replace Schwartz.  The right tackle position has been perpetually weak since his departure.

At one point, the Kansas City Chiefs had three ex-Browns as starters on its offensive line with Schwartz, Cameron Erving, and Austin Reiter.
