Cameron Erving, Kansas City Chiefs

Another Florida State product, Cameron Erving, was a monumental flop after being selected in the first round by Ray Farmer in 2015. As a brash rookie he bragged about being able to play all five offensive line positions, and the Browns were naive enough to believe him.

Proving himself to be a prophet, he played tackle, guard, and center and was spectacularly ineffective. He made penalties, hiked the ball over the quarterback’s head on occasion and was just a disaster. However, as he played he slowly improved — but it wasn’t enough.

Cleveland decided to decline the fifth year option in his rook deal. That led to the team trading him to the Kansas City Chiefs for a late-round pick. As luck would have it, Erving improved there and become their starting guard.

He has not been impressive, but he has been good enough to help protect Patrick Mahomes.

This year due to injuries to starting left tackle Eric Fisher, they moved Erving over to left tackle where he struggled more than at guard.  Now that Fischer is healthy again, Erving is no longer starting.

Erving is not a strong starter and if he were with the Browns now he would be second string. He’s good enough to play in the NFL but fell far short of the potential the Browns saw in him.
