Ranking potential head coach candidates for the Cleveland Browns
By Dan Justik
T-6. Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski
Kevin Stefanski was a part of the interviews for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job last offseason and was a finalist with Kitchens. Stefanski was rather unknown at the time, but this offseason should get several interviews.
Stefanski has built a strong Vikings offense, anchored by the run game led by Dalvin Cook. The Vikings have the seventh best rushing offense in the NFL. Minnesota has the 13th best total offense in the NFL, averaging 357.1 yards per game. They are also seventh in points per game (25.7) and 10th in yards per play (5.8).

The 37-year-old’s offense may not be blowing teams out on the scoreboard, but he builds a game plan that compliments the passing game and Kirk Cousins. By relying on the run game, Stefanski helps to create openings in the passing game Cousins can take advantage of.
However, despite his ability as an offensive play-caller and having experience in multiple roles as a position coach, Stefanski may not be the coach the Browns need. He may be a good offensive mind, but the Browns would be in the same position as they are with Kitchens with a first-time head coach who would likely prefer to be the play-caller.
Cleveland’s analytics department and Paul DePodesta reportedly preferred Stefanski over Kitchens last offseason. But after watching Kitchens try to manage the responsibilities of being a head coach, Cleveland may not want to dip into the first-time head coach pool once again.
