Baker Mayfield will make history on Sunday

The Cleveland Browns didn’t have much go their way this season but they will still see Baker Mayfield make some history for them this weekend
With one game left in the season, the Cleveland Browns won’t have their first winning season since 2007. Despite all the talent on the roster, the best they can finish is 7-9 if they do manage to beat the Cincinnati Bengals.
That doesn’t mean everything about this season has been bad. They’ve shown some flashes during the year and have something they haven’t had in 18 years — a quarterback to start every game.
Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 overall pick in 2018, started 13 games as a rookie and then entered the offseason as the unquestioned starter. And when he takes the field Sunday, he will be the first Cleveland signal-caller since Tim Couch in 2001 to start every game in a season.

That’s a testament to the struggles this team has had. They finish this decade as the only NFL team without a winning record and their instability at the most important position is the No. 1 reason they have struggled.
Another reason is the fact that they can’t seem to find a coach they like. That could prove to be a problem again this offseason as the jury is out on rookie head coach Freddie Kitchens.
As for quarterback, that position seems solid. Mayfield hasn’t been as good as he would have liked this season but he’s still young. And despite throwing 19 interceptions, he has shown he can make all the throws the Browns need him to.
Sunday against Cincinnati will be a good chance for him and the team to close things out on a positive note. It also reminds us that Baker ended a nearly two-decade-long struggle to find someone the team believes in.
