There are many big names being discussed as the next head coach for the Cleveland Browns, but there are some candidates no one is talking about

At 6-9, the Cleveland Browns really have very little to play for outside of personal pride in Week 17. For quarterback Baker Mayfield and head coach Freddie Kitchens, that’s enough.

Mayfield recently said he wants to finish the season strong and considering how much he has struggled this year, a little confidence boost would be a good thing for him — and the team.

Entering the final game of 2019, Mayfield has 3,548 yards passing with 19 touchdowns and 18 picks. It’s far from an ideal stat line and part of the reason the team has struggled.

As for Kitchens, he too can use a strong finish. The rookie head coach has struggled to find an offensive identity and has been criticized heavily for his play-calling. And even with the heat, he refuses to give up those duties.

The struggles have led to calls for Kitchens to be fired and there were rumors that this nearly happened as early as Week 6 when the Browns lost a game they should have won against the Seattle Seahawks.

For general manager John Dorsey, he’s going to need to see something that the Browns can build on. Kitchens was the first head coach he hired himself and he would have to feel the sting for moving on after just 16 games — but if there’s no reason to think 2020 will be different, his hand could be forced by owner Jimmy Haslam.

With many thinking that’s a foregone conclusion, the topic of the next new Cleveland coach has again been trending. There are many big names being discussed but there are several that no one is talking about. Here, we dive into a few of those names.
