The Cleveland Browns may not be done making changes following the 2019 season, and it could lead to the Browns bringing back a familiar face.

The Cleveland Browns failures during the heavily hyped 2019 season has led to instant changes in the organization, as the Browns fired head coach Freddie Kitchens after one season in the role. The poor season may have left such a sour taste in the Haslam family’s mouths that there may be even more changes.

The Browns front office as currently structured does not appear to be safe. Whether that means realignment or some of the personnel staff will be let go, it seems like the Haslam’s are willing to consider all options.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the analytics department could be getting a bigger say in the decision-making process. Paul DePodesta appears to be in line to getting more power in the Browns front office, and the Haslam’s reportedly may want to bring back a familiar face: Andrew Berry.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

"There’s still a disconnect in the building between DePodesta’s analytics side and Dorsey’s football side, a source told cleveland.com, and it could come to a head as they embark on this search. There’s even talk in league circles that Haslam might want to bring former Vice President of Player Personnel Andrew Berry back to Cleveland. – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com"

Berry is currently in his first year as the Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Football Operations after spending three seasons in Cleveland as the Vice President of Player Personnel. Berry was brought in during the Sashi Brown regime, but he seemed to be the middle ground between the “analytics side” and the “football side.”

Ian Rapoport and Jim Trotter of NFL Network reported that Berry is a general manager candidate to watch in the offseason. He is viewed as a young and sharp-minded executive who uses analytics to find quality football players, as well as his ability to scout talent with their on-field performance.

Despite Cleveland’s potential interest in Berry, it is likely the only option to bring Berry to Cleveland would be to name him general manager. That would mean Dorsey is either promoted to a position higher than general manager, or the Haslam’s decide to revamp the front office altogether and move on from the Dorsey regime.

It is not surprising there is a disconnect between the analytics department and Dorsey and his regime. The two groups were forced together by ownership, so the two sides not working well together should have been expected. And with DePodesta’s picks to be the next Browns head coach the last two coaching searches (Sean McDermott, Kevin Stefanski) looking like the much better options, Haslam may want the analytics department to have a bigger voice when making decisions.

Cleveland will need to get their front office sorted out quickly because with several potential openings at head coach around the league, they could risk losing their No. 1 option. No matter how it works out, however, it seems like it is guaranteed there will be some movement in the Browns front office.
