Rumors are swirling about what’s next for the Cleveland Browns. Here is the latest about what is being said:

Is John Dorsey on his way out?

With the Cleveland Browns finishing off a lackluster 6-10 campaign and Head Coach Freddie Kitchens getting canned, is GM John Dorsey next in line? Rumors are swirling that Dorsey, who has been in charge of the last two drafts, may be on the chopping block.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

It really comes down to who owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam decide to hand the head coaching position to, and how much say Dorsey gets in the search.

Dorsey has a great track record of acquiring talent, but his overall roster construction and how well the pieces fit together leave some wondering if Dorsey is best suited as a GM or Director of Scouting.

Is Paul DePodesta making a power play?

It has been rumored before in coaching searches of recent Browns past but it is being said again that Browns Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta wants more of a say within the organization.

It has been widely known that DePodesta wanted Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott to run the show in Cleveland before Hue Jackson was hired. He also clearly wanted Vikings OC Kevin Stefanski in last years search.

Overall it would be hard to give DePodesta more power if he still lives in California and would not be willing to make the move to Cleveland.

Josh McDaniels to get an interview

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the Browns have requested permission to speak with Patriots OC, and Canton native, Josh McDaniels. This makes a lot of sense because it was said that the Patriots really liked Baker Mayfield coming out of college and maybe McDaniels could get the most out of him.

A former head coach in Denver, McDaniels spurned the Colts in 2018 after agreeing to become their coach. It has been rumored that Josh McDaniels is the favorite of Browns owner Dee Haslam.

This would not be good for John Dorsey as it has been noted that Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio would likely join McDaniels where ever he coaches.

Urban Meyer a candidate or just consulting?

Urban Meyer has been linked to the Browns jobs for some time now as his relationship with the Haslam family has become fully known. Meyer would be a welcomed candidate for the job as his culture-changing abilities are second to none.

But his health remains a concern and there are rumors that he is only consulting with the Haslams. But could his consulting work lead to a full-on executive role with the club later down the road?

Andrew Berry making a comeback?

Cleveland.com is reporting that if the Haslams want to move on from Dorsey and elevate DePodesta in the organization then former Browns front office executive and current Eagles Vice President Andrew Berry could make a comeback as GM.

Berry was well-liked within the walls of Berea and was a favorite of owner Jimmy Haslam. He is also very analytically driven.

Mike McCarthy a possibility?

Former Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy has also been rumored as an option for the Browns. While he is said to have taken this year off and became of a fan of analytics if McCarthy wasn’t a serious candidate last season, then why would he be this time around?
