Background on every reported Cleveland Browns head coach candidate
By Dan Justik
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels
Josh McDaniels has been connected to multiple Cleveland Browns head coaching vacancies, but last interviewed for the position with the Browns in 2014. However, McDaniels is reportedly Cleveland’s top choice this time around.
McDaniels has been with the New England Patriots for 16 seasons, and has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for 12 of those seasons. He has won six Super Bowls while with the Patriots.
In 2019, the Patriots offense ranked 15th in the NFL, averaging 354.0 yards per game, and the seventh-best scoring offense, averaging 26.2 points per game. New England had the eighth-best passing offense and 18th ranked rushing offense.

McDaniels has always led a balanced offense and adjusted his scheme to the personnel he has. Despite not having the most talented players at the skill positions in his offense, New England consistently has had a top offense.
The 43-year-old spent two seasons as the Denver Broncos head coach in 2009-2010. He was fired towards the end of the 2010 season, and finished with a 11-17 record. His struggles in Denver were compiled as he was viewed as power-hungry and had too much power.
Despite his struggles as a head coach, McDaniels is still viewed as a strong leader who many believe is ready to be a head coach. After working under the tutelage of Bill Belichick and maturing since his time in Denver, McDaniels is a top head coach candidate this offseason.
The Browns will reportedly interview McDaniels on Friday, January 10.
