Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy

Eric Bieniemy has been with the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013, including the past two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator. Bieniemy was Kansas City’s running backs coach from 2013-2017.

Bieniemy is not the offensive play-caller for the Chiefs, but he plays a significant role in setting up game plans and runs the offensive meetings. Bieniemy is also credited with helping the 2018 MVP Patrick Mahomes establish himself as a top-tier quarterback by helping simplify the offense.

Kansas City had the sixth-best offense in 2019, averaging 379.2 yards per game, and the fifth-best scoring offense, averaging 28.2 points per game. The Chiefs also had the fifth-best passing offense and the 23rd ranked rushing offense.

Since entering coaching in 2001, Bieniemy has served as either a running backs coach or offensive coordinator. Bieniemy spent five seasons as the Minnesota Vikings running backs coach, helping establish Adrian Peterson as the top running back in the NFL at the time. He also was a college running backs coach for five seasons and college offensive coordinator for two seasons.

Despite not being the Kansas City offensive play-caller, the 50-year-old is believed to be more than ready to be a head coach. Andy Reid has a strong coaching tree in the NFL, and Bieniemy is expected to be the next head coach to come from the Reid-tree.

The Browns interviewed Bieniemy Friday, January 3.
