Daily Dawg Tags: Cleveland Browns have best odds to land Tom Brady?
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including why the Browns were given the best odds to land Tom Brady.
The Cleveland Browns are pursuing New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to be their head coach this offseason. However, McDaniels leaving New England would not be the biggest departure in New England this offseason, as Tom Brady could also be on the way out.
Brady is set to hit the open market for the first time in his entire career and there is nothing the Patriots can do to stop it unless they offer Brady a deal he cannot refuse. If there ever was a time that Brady would leave New England, this offseason seems like the most likely time.
If Brady were to leave the Patriots, there is no doubt that he would only sign with a team that he would consider a contender. But as everyone tries to figure out where Brady will land, one sports book gave the Cleveland Browns the best odds to land the quarterback.

Why were the Browns given the best odds to land Tom Brady? – Ben Axelrod, WKYC.com
"“The Browns were initially installed as the favorites because we do believe Josh McDaniels will take a head coaching position this offseason, and the stars align well for him to head back to Ohio where he was born and raised,” the site’s lines manager, Robert Cooper, told 3News."
Even though McDaniels is seen as the front-runner for the Browns head coaching vacancy, it is incredibly hard to imagine Brady will come to Cleveland with Baker Mayfield on the roster. Neither Mayfield or Brady are going to sit on the bench, so just because Brady could rejoin McDaniels should not have made the Browns the favorites to land Brady.
The right coaching hire puts the Browns in the playoff hunt
The Cleveland Browns were in playoff contention until the end of the season despite all of the problems they were dealing with. Frank Teriaca says that if the Browns make the right coaching hire this offseason, they will be put right back into the playoff mix.
Browns coach job requirement: Don’t just hire scheme, hire a leader – Dan Labbe, Cleveland.com
"Culture matters and finding the marriage of great scheme and great culture-setter is the dream scenario. The Rams seem to have found it in Sean McVay. The 49ers, too, appear to have it in Kyle Shanahan."
The Browns decision to hire Freddie Kitchens as head coach became a problem because they hired him due to his work calling plays instead of his ability to lead the offense. It was clear that he did not know how to be the team’s leader, and the success of the team faltered because of it. During this coaching search, the Browns need to make sure the head coach will have the respect of the players and can lead the team in a variety of ways.
Tua Tagovailoa decision benefits the Cleveland Browns
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ended the uncertainty Monday when he declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. The Browns may not need a quarterback this offseason, but Tagovailoa entering the draft will ultimately affect the Browns during the draft.
